At the beginning of November I headed up to Byfleet, Surrey, and joined with fellow members of the South of England Hedge-laying Society to lay a section of wildlife-friendly hedge. The hedge itself is 10 – 12 years old and had reached a suitable height for laying. A good, well planted, mixture of hawthorn, blackthorn, dogwood, wild rose and hazel, it was a pleasure to lay even if I did end up with wet feet by the end of it!
Unfortunately I didn’t get many photos due to the monsoon-like conditions: Note the puddle which grew larger as the day went on! At least it did stop raining by mid-afternoon, and a good time was had by all involved.
